Meet the Artist

Shawn Marlow is a seasoned professional in the water well and oil and gas industries, with expertise in drilling, well maintenance, rehabilitation, and pumping system design. As a co-founder of Advance Water Well Technologies (2013), he specializes in optimizing existing wells, redesigning pumping equipment, and developing patent-pending technology. Before entering the water well industry in 2010, Shawn worked for Transocean, the world’s largest offshore drilling contractor, gaining experience on offshore rigs across Australia, Asia, Canada, and the Gulf of Mexico. This background helped shape the professionalism and high standards of his company. Since 2014, Shawn has been a dedicated educator, teaching water well courses for the Texas Water Utilities Association (TWUA), engineering firms, municipalities, city councils, high schools, and realtor CE programs. In addition to his technical work, Shawn is known as the "Water Industry Artist," combining his love for painting and photography with the water well industry. He paints live at over 20 conventions annually, using his "oil sculpting" technique to create 3D effects in oil paintings of water well job sites and landscapes. His work has been published in the Water Well Journal (including three covers) and the Worldwide Drilling Resource magazine. With studios in San Antonio and New York City, Shawn travels the world painting at iconic locations such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Big Ben in London, the Colosseum in Rome, and Central Park in New York City. His passion for the industry is reflected in both his teaching and his art.
