PRE-APPROVAL FOR TCEQ TESTING
If you want to test for a TCEQ License, your application must be pre-approved before you can register to test. More information below.
As of July 1, 2022, TCEQ announced the Class A Wastewater Exam is now available online. As both A Exams are available online, beginning August 1, 2022, TCEQ will no longer administer “A” exams at the regional school.
As of September 1, 2022, paper based exams will no longer be offered at the TCEQ district offices.
PURSUANT TO HOUSE BILL 1508, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2017
This notice shall serve to inform, that specific criminal history could negatively impact and affect a person’s ability to receive a TCEQ issued Operator’s License. Participating in any Texas Water Utilities Association (TWUA) affiliated operator training course(s) does not guarantee or in any way imply you will be eligible to test or receive a state issued operator’s license.
Certification & Examination Information
CREDIT HOURS
Those desiring credit for certification must turn in their attendance cards to their proctor at the beginning of each day and after each break, including lunch. These cards will then be cross-referenced with the class roster and punched for the session. The cards will be returned to you prior to leaving for breaks and at the end of the day. Most importantly, be sure to turn in your attendance card to the class proctor at the completion of your course. Cards cannot be mailed at a later time.
Basic courses are designed for those just entering the water utility field who desire certification at the “D” or “C” level. Since specific courses are required for certain licenses, you must be sure to attend the correct class. If you are not sure, check with TCEQ.
IMPORTANT TESTING INFORMATION
As of September 1, 2023, paper based exams will no longer be offered at TWUA Regional Schools. All tests are available at authorized Computer Based Testing sites. You can see the available sites here:

The TCEQ must pre-approve your license application before you can register to sit for an exam. You can complete and submit your e-App on the TCEQ web site. If approved, you will receive an approval letter in the mail which you must bring with you at exam time. Approval of an e-application takes approximately 6-8 weeks (if all supporting documentation is provided and there are no deficiencies).
LABORATORY ANALYSTS
Examinations for the Laboratory Analyst certifications will be given on Thursday, May 13, 2027, at 1:00 p.m. providing prior arrangements have been made. Applications must be submitted through TWUA in advance of this school.
New TCEQ Resiliency Training Requirement
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has established a new training requirement for water operators. Water operators will need to complete Resiliency Training to obtain, renew, or upgrade their licenses. An operator can meet this requirement by taking a Basic Water course plus a TCEQ-approved Resiliency overview course or a Basic Water course that includes the required resiliency topics.
The TWUA resiliency course has been approved to meet the requirement and will be offered beginning November 16, 2023. The two-hour online training session is offered at 1:30 pm each Thursday. Each class is limited to 75 members and registration is first-come, first-served. TWUA members can take this training at no charge, but non-members are subject to a $60 fee.
